The cheapest Jubilee decorations including bunting, balloons and tablecloths to throw a party on a budget - Birmingham Live

We compared supermarket jubilee offerings and found the cheapest so you don’t have to

A Platinum Jubilee comes once every 70 years so there is no better time to go all out with your decorations. Between June 2 and June 5, Brits are expected to deck their houses and gardens in red, white and blue to celebrate Queen Elizabeth.

Her Majesty is only the fourth monarch in global history to make it to 70 years on the throne, justifying the four day weekend. Such a huge national event warrants a huge display of decorations but there is no need to spend hundreds on them.

Several supermarkets are selling budget Jubilee decorations so everyone can get involved with the celebrations. From paper plates to corgi mugs and union jack cushions, supermarkets really do have you covered.

I went into stores of M&S, Waitrose, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Asda and Aldi to see what jubilee decorations they have in stock. I compared each supermarket to find the best way to throw a jubilee party on a budget.

Asda Jubilee Union Jack Bunting

M&S Union Jack Jubilee Bunting

Waitrose Talking Tables Brit Bunting

The most cost efficient place to buy bunting, by far, is Asda which is selling 2.5m lengths of Union Jack bunting for £1. You’ll save yourself a whole £7.50 per set than if you were to buy the most expensive Waitrose bunting.

Tesco Red White Blue Balloons

Sainsbury’s Rainbow Plain Balloons

Sainsbury’s is the most cost efficient place to buy balloons, as you get a whole 50 for £2.50, but Asda sells the cheapest pack at £1 for 15. What’s more is they come in red, the perfect colour for the Jubilee. Waitrose is charging an incredible £6 for a pack of 16 balloons - which you may want to avoid if partying on a budget.

Sainsbury’s GB Flag Paper Cups

Your best value for paper cups is probably Tesco, which is selling 15 paper cups for £1.25. However, the Asda cups are red, so perfect for the Jubilee.

M&S Platinum Jubilee Paper Plates

For paper plates, we would suggest going for the Tesco paper plates to get you 50 for £1. It’s a no brainer really.

Asda Jubilee Union Jack Napkins

M&S Platinum Jubilee Napkins

Sainsbury’s Britain Flag Jubilee Napkins

Once again, Asda is the best value supermarket for decorations, with its Jubilee Napkins costing £1 for 20. You do probably get more for your money with the Morrisons napkins, which might be more cost effective for a big party, but they are not jubilee themed.

Asda Jubilee Union Jack Tablecloth

Aldi Blue Daisy Picnic Tablecloth

M&S Pure Cotton Tablecloth

There seems to be a bit of a trend here. Once again, Asda comes out on top with the cheapest tablecloths.

Bear in mind they are not reusable whereas a couple of the others listed are.

Waitrose Essential Iced Fairy Cakes

Tesco Mini Jubilee Queen’s Cupcakes

Asda Jubilee Cupcakes and Gingerbread

Sainsbury’s Jubilee Chocolate and Vanilla Cupcakes

Although the Waitrose cupcakes are the cheapest, which is a highly unusual sentence to write, the Tesco cupcakes are the cheapest Jubilee themed cupcakes, and you get nine.

Asda Jubilee Union Jack Picnic Blanket

M&S Striped Picnic Blanket

Both the M&S and Tesco picnic blankets are good options although you would be best to go for the Asda one if you are after jubilee patterns.

Asda Jubilee Union Jack Bunting : £1

Sainsbury’s Rainbow Plain Balloons : £2.50

Asda Jubilee Union Jack Napkins : £1

Asda Jubilee Union Jack Tablecloth : £2

Tesco Mini Jubilee Queen’s Cupcakes : £2.25

Asda Jubilee Union Jack Picnic Blanket : £5

Of course, this will not cover the whole cost of a party, you will still have the majority of your food and drink to take care of. However this table proves throwing a larger scale Jubilee party with decorations does not have to be extortionate.

Asda is probably your best bet for decorations, as the supermarket seems to have gone all out this year with cheap decorations, although Tesco is also a good option.
