The 95th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is coming soon. Of course, New York won all the honors for participating in the parade, but do you know Jersey’s connection with the annual tradition?

When the Thanksgiving spectacle takes place on the streets of New York, the creative process begins in the Garden State!

Moonachie, located in Bergen County, New Jersey, is home to the Macy’s Parade Studio. According to this article by NJMonthly, about 30 craftsmen make huge parade floats, balloons and costumes in this facility throughout the year.

Each year, the team is responsible for making four to six new floats and three to five huge balloons. In addition to making new works, they also retouched dozens of floats and balloons stored in separate facilities in previous years.

There will be 6 new floats this year, totaling 28 floats.

There will also be a brand new element in the parade, the "floalloonicle", according to Will Coss, the executive producer of the parade, it is part balloon and part floating. He said, “It has an internal structure and a certain stage suitable for our top talents. But it also has a balloon element, which is the real pirate ship itself.”

The floats are brought to New York City in different forms through the Lincoln Tunnel, and once they pass through the tunnel, they are reassembled for the parade.

This year's parade does not require people to be vaccinated against COVID. It will start at 9 am on Thanksgiving Day at Central Park West and 77th Street. It will be aired on NBC, hosted by Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb and Al Roker.
